Visit Corpus Christi Kicks Off Gulf Coast Capital Brand for the City, Receives DMAP Accreditation

Visit Corpus Christi, the tourism arm of the City, has given Corpus Christi a new brand as the “Gulf Coast Capital” when it come to tourism and outdoor and water recreation. Its new marketing campaign aims to give visitors a reason to want to come back again and again by providing unique, authentic, and high quality experiences in the City.

“We live in a place where 11 million people choose to come for their vacation destination, it’s a very popular city to visit, and something we need to think about and consider for our economy,” said Brett Oetting, Visit Corpus Christi CEO and President.

The Gulf Coast Capital campaign was announced and kicked off with a Gulf Coast Capital Community Night on July 9, 2021 during the Corpus Christi Hooks Game at Whataburger Field, where attendees received swag bags and merchandise with the City’s new brand, and a press conference was held by Visit Corpus Christi officials and Mayor Paulette Guajardo, who helped throw the opening first pitch of the game.

“Tourism is the second largest industry sector in Corpus Christi and visitors help drive the local economy by helping to support businesses, hotels and restaurants, creating jobs and enhancing the quality of life for residents and tourists alike,” Guajardo said.

How can the public help promote Corpus Christi as the Gulf Coast Capital? By using the hashtags #SeeCC, #CCME, and #gulfcoastCapital on social media when sharing positive things to see and do in the Coastal Bend – according to officials from Visit Corpus Christi.

Local residents from all walks of life and ages are invited to help identify their favorite attractions and display the vibrance of Corpus Christi through public engagement on social media. In addition to its role in rebranding the city, this July, Visit Corpus Christi, was also awarded by Destinations International with the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program (DMAP) Seal and now joins the ranks of over 200 international destination organizations providing quality and excellence.

“The Visit Corpus Christi team is thrilled to have earned this certification,” said Brett Oetting, president and CEO of Visit Corpus Christi in a news release.

“It’s a great way to see both what we’re doing really well as a DMO and areas that may require additional focus. This certification puts us in great company among top-notch DMOs globally and positions us well going into the 2021 season as we continue working hard for both our tourism and economic development partners and our potential and returning visitors.”

To qualify for accreditation, Visit Corpus Christi needed to meet several mandatory and voluntary standards for management and marketing, which includes governance, finance, human resources, sales, communications, and destination development and research for the destination organization.

Mayor Paulette Guajardo stated in the news release that achieving this DMAP accreditation proves Corpus Christi is using best practices in its strategy to become a premier destination and the Gulf Coast Capital and congratulated the Visit Corpus Christi team on social media. “The hard work of President and CEO Brett Oetting and his team has led to them being awarded the Destination Marketing Accreditation Program seal by Destinations International – We truly are the #GulfCoastCapital!”
