Its signature coffee drink, the Aztec Espresso, is a latte with chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. The Mayan Espresso, a variation of the Aztec, includes cayenne powder for an extra kick. Bien Mérité, nestled in the Central City near The Coffee Mugg, is an authentic French bakery, cafe, and restaurant. As soon as you set foot through the front door of their new location, you will be engulfed by the sweet scent of pastries.

You will be drawn to the counter, which behind glass displays a variety of such baked goodies as French croissants, eclairs, cakes, pastries, and sandwiches. To drink you can choose from classic and sweet coffees, matcha tea, and fruit beverages. Specialty drinks include the French Kiss Latte, Lavender Matcha, Turmeric Mylk, and Unicorn’s Blood Lemonade.

(Fun fact: Bien Mérité is a partner of Matcha Konomi, a ceremonial grade matcha harvested in Yame and Uji, Japan.)

Family- and veteran-owned, Bloom City Coffee has two locations in Portland. Their coffee is freshly ground at their Ingleside roastery. They offer specialty fall-themed drinks ranging from Pumpkin Pie, Maple Pecan, and Maple Spice.

According to manager Heather Boothby, all products are fresh and made from scratch. “Everything we put in our drinks is natural, not artificial, and… our coffee products are always fresh. We are committed to best practices towards guest hospitality, our partners, the environment and our community,” Boothby said. These made from scratch goods include such breakfast items as blueberry muffins and energizing protein bites. Lunch item favorites range from warm sandwiches to cold chicken salad wraps.

Customers can grab their coffee and food on the go via the drive thru or settle inside for studying or socializing.

What could be more compatible than books and coffee? Attached to Half Price Books is Cafe Calypso, which imports coffee from the 20 different countries whose flags adorn the ceiling. 

Signature drinks include Turkish coffee, Vietnamese style coffee and a series of lattes with extra espresso and half and half, known as The Buzz (no extra flavors), Buzzzilla (vanilla) and The Buzz’Wizer (Irish cream). 

“We have been roasting or own coffee since 1993,” said owner Marcy Okummuş. “We bake our own breads and desserts, and we are famous for our home made whipped cream.” Known also for its cheesecake, Italian cream cake, and tea drinks such as Foggy Tea, Chai and Dirty Chai, a customer favorite is the “Turkish Delight,” which tastes like the same-named confection. 

Note that this cafe only accepts cash or check, but has an ATM in store.

A sister to Roasted Coffee Company, Wired Coffee Company specializes in making a delicious cup of coffee with freshly roasted beans from Gruene, Texas.

Located just outside of Texas A&M University Corpus Christi, Wired provides ample study space in its yellow and black bumblebee-themed shop. Helpful for students, they also carry everyday products like blue books and scantron sheets. Among its coffee and espresso beverages, signature flavors include Dirty Chai, Horchata, the cuddly Teddy Graham drink (with honey and cinnamon), as well as pastries with vegan options.
