Who doesn’t love a GREAT night out on the town enjoying Karaoke? Corpus Christi continues to prove that we have some of the most exceptional talent and entertainment around, especially when it comes to performances and music.
The Japanese term karaoke is actually made up of two parts: kara, which means “empty,” and oke, which is short for “orchestra.” So in other words, karaoke‘s meaning in Japanese is “singing with an empty orchestra.”
Personally, I have a soft spot for a “Karaoke Night Out.” I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Sing Bar Karaoke Lounge, which is open most days from 12:00pm to 2:00am and is located 7114 Saratoga Blvd #114, Corpus Christi, TX 78414. One of the best parts about this establishment is that karaoke is seven-nights a week, starting at about 9:30pm until 2:00am!
“I love how music is universal and can bring people together.”
ADRIAN MEDINA
Manager and DJ of the Sing Bar
The Sing Bar offers Happy Hour Karaoke on Fridays and Sundays 6:00pm to 9:00pm and a Happy Hour Open Mic Warm-Up on Thursdays 6:00pm to 9:00pm.
I spoke with Adrian Medina, Manager and DJ of the Sing Bar who expressed that his overall goal is to become a great example of a modernized karaoke bar with a “family vibe.” He also mentioned how he’s inspired by the amazing talent that continuously enters the establishment nightly.
“I love how music is universal and can bring people together,” Medina said. (You can totally respect that right?!?!) When I asked what his hopes are for the future, he replied, “My future is in the bar. I do not see myself as a 50-year-old KJ/DJ, so I hope to find someone younger with the same caliber of passion for Karaoke that I have [to take over].”
As for the future of Sing Bar itself, Medina would love to see the expansion of their current location. While nothing immediate is in the works at the moment, the future looks bright for the business. So fingers crossed, this year provides for an expansion in the future.
Now slightly shifting gears in the Karaoke Loop, I met with independent DJ Luo Ramos, owner of Rockstar Rise Entertainment. He was kind enough to share that he “simply aspires to create a platform for anyone to step on and feel like a rockstar – with professional sound, microphones, lights, lasers and smoke!”
DJ Luo is all over the place: from hosting Bingo every Tuesday to putting on larger than life karaoke shows! You can catch him at the following venues:
361 BAR – every Wednesday and Friday. Located at 1023 TX-361 Ste. A, Port Aransas, TX 78373.
SALTY DOLPHIN – every Saturday in February. Located at 15201 Windward Dr. A, Corpus Christi, TX 78418
HARDKNOCKS SPORTS BAR & GRILL – 15401 S Padre Island Dr., Corpus Christi, TX 78418. Their karaoke experience just launched on Thursday, February 9, and will continue through March.
Other establishments like Molly’s Karaoke and Sports Bar (4201 McArdle Rd., Corpus Christi, TX 78411) and Barton’s Street Pub (10618 S Padre Island Dr., Corpus Christi, TX 78418) also offer a karaoke experience. DJ Luo still has time for private event bookings and is very passionate about a positive karaoke experience overall.
I’ll leave you with this final perk about the benefits of performing karaoke. Did you know it stimulates your brain? Aside from raising the bar on all of those things you normally do when singing alone, it also creates activity in the neurons of your brain. According to Healthline.com, these neurons bring together emotional, physical and psychological activity. So in other words, singing karaoke is a stress reliever, it lets you breathe better, and it improves your memory (based on research from Debra Rose Wilson, Ph.D., MSN, R.N., IBCLC, AHN-BC, CHT).
I encourage everyone to consider a karaoke night out to add to your bucket list. Let’s Support Local Karaoke!
